CRAFT A COMPELLING VISION
To craft a compelling vision, you must operate out of imagination rather than memory. When you start with what you’ve done before, your thinking is incremental. When you start with your imagination, your thinking can be transformational. In this mode, anything is possible.
Powerful visions are often metaphoric or multi-sensory; they encourage you not just to think, but to see, hear and feel. Martin Luther King’s most famous speech is not remembered because he said, “I have a plan.”
A vision can be the force that unites your people toward a common end. Rather than spend precious time and resources competing with one another, they have a good reason to collaborate instead.
To meet a standard of excellence, your vision should define a clear destination, be compelling and inspiring, be achievable, be able to guide priorities and decisions, and create a line of sight for the personal contribution of each team member.
